layers

With the weather growing colder, I find myself resorting to layers on layers. Cardigans are my favourite, and I love pairing them with a knitted scarf. This one has been my most recent love - it was a steal at Urban, on sale for half off!

I've been spending my time lately working on art projects and adventuring with friends. It's finally Christmas break, and I'm excited to finally relax. Most days you'll probably be able to find me huddled in a giant sweater and a mess of covers, pouring over my favourite books and magazines, watching the snow falling outside.

chicago

This past week, one of my classes took a trip to Chicago, my favourite city. I was so glad to be back, and the rainy day made it even more beautiful. Something about a rain-soaked downtown is magical to me. The puddles reflecting the headlights. The whirl of colourful heels and umbrellas. The tops of buildings disappearing into the clouds.

We saw lots of art and explored some of the coolest parts of the city. It was an exhausting day, but even as I got back on the train to go home, I felt myself wishing that I was staying and living out my dream in the streets of Chicago. One day, I know I'll live there, but for now these visits will have to do.

sweater weather

It's been sooo long since I've posted, and I'm really sorry. I've been caught up with the whirl of senior year, and so many things have already happened. I've been busy with work, homecoming, looking at colleges, and classes on top of that!

But I'm back, and I hope things will calm down now that I'm back in the groove of things. Today my friend and I took a Sunday adventure to town, and hung out on campus at the college I hope to attend next year. We had fruit smoothies, spicy wings, and cold vanilla ice-cream. We're total foodies!

I'm so glad that the weather is turning colder. I love sweater weather! I can't wait to bundle up and layer layer layer.

simple stripes

I'm so sorry it's been so long since I've posted - last week was band camp (my last one ever!), and considering I was hot and sweaty everyday, I figured an outfit post would just not be a good idea. Ha!

Today was my first free day in a while, and I spent it with some of my best friends. We went to my favourite coffeeshop and talked about lipstick and the coming fall days over steaming mugs of coffee. I also found a secret drawer in one of the tables known as the "drawer of inspiration", and left a handwritten copy of my favourite poem by Charles Bukowski, An Almost Made Up Poem.

The weather wasn't incredibly hot, so I slipped on a tee with my capris. It was comfy and casual, which is usually what I opt for.

Do you like simple outfits, or would you rather wear something that isn't so plain? Let me know! xx

bonjour & boyfriend jeans

Of course at this point, you've probably realized that I have an endless amount of grey t-shirts. And booties. It's hopeless, really. I love colour, it just doesn't tend to pop up in my wardrobe very often (although I really am working on that).

Today the weather was cool and hinting at fall. I threw on a pair of boyfriend crops and a tee, and headed out. I love the idea and look of boyfriend jeans. I think they're so refreshing after seeing so many tight pieces.

With the sun on our faces, my friend and I took a walk to the lake. It was gorgeous, and it's easy to lose yourself in the blue waves and sky. I can hardly believe that summer has gone by so fast, and it's a little sad, but mostly exciting. I always forget how much I love fall, but there really is so much to look forward to - pretty leaves, pumpkin patches, late nights around campfires, hot chocolate, cozy sweatshirts. It's one of my favourite times of the year. <3

What do you think about boyfriend jeans? Would you rock them or would you rather stick to skinnies?

neutrals

Today consisted of many hours of adventuring with two of my closest friends. After spending way too much money shopping (my obsession with buying shoes and lipstick never fails to amaze me), we went out for some early supper and then later, some amazing cookies. And I mean amazing. My friend directed us through the streets of downtown to a small but totally delicious cookie shop. I ended up getting the peanut butter cup one, and it was ridiculously good. Gooey and rich, just the way it should be.

I ended up wearing all neutrals for the day, asides from my bubblegum pink nails. I tend to lean towards a minimalistic style, which some people might find boring, but I think is very fresh. I'm probably a little too excited about my new camel-coloured booties, which I picked up at Express last week. I just think they're perfect for transiting from summer to fall.

lately

Lately I've been exploring city streets with my friend, staying up late, eating (more) macarons, laughing around campfires, struggling with my messy hair, listening to Lana Del Rey, and taking lots and lots of photos.

It's hard to believe summer is over halfway over, but I've been trying to make the most of it. I'm excited to see what the colder weather of fall brings, and the changes it brings with it. For now though, I'm going to spend time with my friends under the hot summer sun and enjoy being carefree.

How has your summer been? Have you been on any adventures or tried something new?

beach day

This morning the sun was shining and a bunch of my friends and I decided it was a perfect day to go to the beach. Well, kind of a beach. It's actually just on a lake, but on a hot summer day lounging on the sand, you can almost pretend you're at the ocean.

Spending the hours hanging out with some of my closest friends was wonderful, especially since this is the last summer before my senior year. After that, we'll all go our separate ways, and there's no way to know what will happen.

We splashed in the waves, took in the sunshine, laughed over immature jokes, took ridiculous photos, and took turns burying each other in the sand. Yes, I might have gotten a terrible sunburn, but it was well worth it. <3

flowy shorts and macarons

These shorts were a total impulse buy. As soon as I saw them laying on the table at Urban, I just knew I had to have them. I mean, the combination of the print and the pom-pom detailing at the hem, what's not to love?! They're also super flowy - they almost feel like wearing a skirt (that's why the fabric is doing some weird things in the pictures, the wind was blowing them!).

Today we went hiking, so I wanted something really simple again (I guess my whole vacation consists of simple outfits). I paired the bright shorts with a v-neck, one of my staple pieces. I love v-necks, because you can dress them up with a pair of heels, or lounge around in them while listening to your favourite records.

We finished the day by heading to a local restaurant that happened to make one of (in my opinion) the best desserts - macarons! I got them in lavender, vanilla, and raspberry. What's even better? They match my shorts!

b&w

As said before, I'm a huge black and white fan when it comes to clothing (of course I love to throw in the occasional pop of colour, too). And my other favourite thing? Prints. I love patterned pieces, and this daisy tee especially because who can deny the fact that daisies are adorable?!

I made it an easy look by pairing it with a soft knit skater skirt in another one of my favourite colours - charcoal. I love comfy clothes, especially for days spent exploring cities.

back to black

75% of my wardrobe consists of blacks and greys. I can't help it, I'm just drawn to the simplicity of monochromatic clothes. We mainly spent today wandering the downtown streets, so once again I stuck to something super easy-going... which of course meant another oversized tee from Brandy Melville.

Speaking of Back to Black, has anyone heard the remake of it that was done for the The Great Gatsby soundtrack? I really love it, so if you haven't, you should definitely check it out. Actually, just listen to the whole soundtrack while you're at it!

What do you think about wearing casual black? Is it too simple, or do you like the carefree feel?

casual 4th

Today was spent in the car, traveling through mountains and little cities to get to our destination, Asheville. It was over a ten hour car ride, and I couldn't wait to get some fresh air tonight. Asheville is the cutest town, and we went to a super hip restaurant for dinner where I tried, of all things, ginger tofu!

I kept it casual for my outfit, as tonight will probably be a super chill 4th of July. I'm in love with Brandy Melville clothes - they are sooo comfy!

old walls

This morning I woke up to slightly chilly weather, and as planned, my friend and I ventured out for a game of golf. My friend and I are hoping to join the team in the fall (I might be pretty terrible at it, but it's my senior year and I thought "why not?!").
Later on we took a walk down Main Street of our hometown to look for any walls to use as a backdrop for photos. There are so many hidden in alleys next to old buildings, so I'm sure you'll be seeing glimpses of more in the future!

Anyway, it's Wednesday which means we're halfway to the weekend, so cheers to that!

really enjoyed this candid of me.. pretty much sums me up

summer greys

Summer. The sweltering heat. The endless days. It's wonderful, really. Especially for someone who spends the rest of the year huddling in layers of sweatshirts because I tend to be cold all the time.
When summer commenced, I finally broke down and bought the one thing that everyone else had in their wardrobe and I still did not - a maxi skirt. I figured it would be hard to wear and I would end up pushing it to the back of my closet, but no! It's perfect for summer, and the floral pattern is just oh so beachy.
